Becoming a Christian!

A Christian is a Christ follower.  To follow Jesus is to accept Jesus’ teaching about God, the world and our place in it.  This all comes from the Bible.

Christians believe that the deepest questions of life can only be answered through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  In an often chaotic world Christians believe that Jesus is the one who can hold our lives together no matter what our circumstances.  We find that purpose by surrendering our lives to Jesus Christ and serving him in the fellowship of His Church.

There are four simple steps to becoming a Christian

1]         Acknowledge who God is – the Bible tells us there is one true living God who created everything that is  and shows his personal, loving commitment to this world through His Son, Jesus Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

2]         Acknowledge who we are – that the whole human race has fallen hopelessly short of God’s perfect standard; that we are separated from God and need forgiveness.

3]         Believe that Jesus Christ bridges the gap.  He is both fully God and fully human and so is well qualified to reconcile us to God.  His mission in coming to this earth was to die on the cross and rise from the dead so that sins could be forgiven and human beings could find relationship again with a Holy God.

4]         Our response – God calls on us to change our whole way of thinking, to give up our indifference or open rebellion and come in humble trust as his adopted child.

You can receive Jesus by simply asking him to come into your life.  The following prayer may express the desire of your heart.

‘Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for showing me what God is really like and what I am really like.  I am sorry I fall far short of the person you created me to be .  Please forgive me and come into my life through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Change me into the child of God you want me to be in Christ.  Help me to find a fulfilling place of service in your Church that I might help build your Kingdom.  I pray in Jesus name.  Amen.’
